Vietnam’s total installed capacity exceeds 9.4GW

According to the report of Vietnam Electric Power Group (EVN), as of January 4, 2021, more than 101,939 rooftop solar systems have been installed in Vietnam, with a total installed capacity exceeding 9.4GW. The goal set by the government last year to install 100,000 rooftop solar systems by 2025 has been completed ahead of schedule, and the Vietnamese market is full of opportunities. Vietnam ranks No.3 in global PV installed capacity in 2020.

From now until 2030, Vietnam needs to invest about 10 billion dollars every year to meet the growing demand. Under such high capital demand, the government allows foreign capital to wholly own Vietnamese energy enterprises. Foreign investors can choose from the approved investment forms, such as 100% foreign investment and PPP mode.

According to the data of MOIT, the power shortage will gradually increase from 2021 to 2024. In 2021, there will be a power shortage of nearly 400 million kWh, which will reach a peak of 13.3 billion kWh in 2023, and the shortage will be alleviated to about 11 billion kWh in 2024.
